Yasun recounts:
“I recently had the opportunity to be part of a team in Upper Dolpa – one of the most remote Himalayan regions in Nepal. I helped install Nyano-Nani infant warmers, which are being used in the health centres in Dho and Saldang.
Reaching these places was a challenge in itself. For days on end, we crossed a high mountain pass at over 5,200 metres. We trekked along difficult paths, slept in tents and traversed landscapes where even access to basic healthcare remains difficult.
It is particularly impressive that Nyano Nani now also reaches remote communities such as Dho Tarap and Saldang. Dho Tarap, at around 4,100 metres – one of the highest permanent settlements in the world – and Saldang, at around 3,900 metres, continue to have health centres serving hundreds of families, despite limited resources and a difficult geographical location.
In addition to the seedling warmers, we also distributed reusable sanitary pads in communities where support for menstrual hygiene remains limited, and held educational sessions on how to use them – another step towards improving healthcare for women.
This journey has shown me that impact is not always created in big cities or conference rooms. Sometimes it happens quietly and unobtrusively in the unseen parts of the country – through small efforts, arduous journeys and people who are willing to be where help is most urgently needed.
A huge thank you goes to the Dai-Bhais who carried the supplies. I would like to express my deepest respect and gratitude to them. They carried the Nyano Nani equipment and, through their strength and endurance, made this mission possible in the first place.
I want to continue to be part of work that takes me to the hidden corners of Nepal, allows me to learn from communities and make a contribution – as best I can. I am grateful to everyone who supported this mission and believed in it.”
